IKWF State Series Eligibility

Note: This post only describes the eligibility requirements. Club leaders, not parents, will register their wrestlers for the regional tournament competition. This will occur the day before the regional tournament competition.

IKWF bylaw 19.3 describes the eligibility requirements for wrestlers and coaches to participate in the 2025 IKWF Individual State Series. Club leaders, coaches, and parents should review the State Series pages and/or the IKWF bylaws for additional eligibility requirements beyond those mentioned below.

19.3. State Series Eligibility requirements for wrestlers and wrestling leaders (coaches):

19.3.1. The requirements below must be completed by 21 days prior to the start of IKWF regional competition. Note: This season, February 1st, 2025, is the completion date. The items below must be completed by this date.

19.3.2. Wrestlers
19.3.2.1. Purchase a current year USA Wrestling athlete membership.
19.3.2.2. Age verified by the IKWF office.
19.3.2.3. Listed on an active IKWF club roster.

19.3.3. Wrestling Leaders (Coaches)
19.3.3.1. Complete Safe Sport Training from USA Wrestling’s provider.
19.3.3.2. Complete and receive an approved background screening from USA Wrestling’s provider.
19.3.3.3. Purchase a current membership year USA Wrestling wrestling leader membership.
19.3.3.4. Complete National Coaches Education Program (NCEP) certification: copper, bronze, silver, or gold.
19.3.3.5. Listed on an active IKWF club roster.

Club leaders should review their IKWF club roster here, https://www.ikwf.org/showClub.php, to verify the eligibility of wrestlers and coaches.  Note: The IKWF does not care what USAW’s membership system says about someone’s status. The IKWF office staff has verified all wrestlers and coaches meet the above-mentioned requirements in bylaw 19.3.

Wrestlers and coaches currently listed on a club’s ACTIVE roster are already eligible for the state series. If they are listed on the Pending or Not Eligible for State Series lists they are not eligible for the IKWF State Series and have until February 1st, 2025 to complete the requirements. Any required information sent after February 1st, 2025 will not make the wrestler or coach eligible for the State Series.

Regional Sites and Team Assignments

Regional and Sectional tournament site information and regional assignments can be found here, IKWF Regional Assignments and Regional/Sectional dates and locations. Some information is not available as of this posting but will be added as it’s received from the Sectional Directors. Most sectional directors do not assign teams until after the state series eligibility deadline has passed.

Novice/Senior State Placewinner Camp

The IKWF has partnered with the University of Illinois wrestling program and Head Coach Mike Poeta to provide our IKWF Novice and Senior boys State Champions and Place winners with an IKWF sponsored camp.

This camp will take place at Huff Hall, home of the University of Illinois wrestling team, on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Each eligible wrestler can attend one or both sessions listed below. There are two sessions to provide travel flexibility for our families.

Camp details:
Date – Saturday, April 5, 2025
Times – Session I: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and Session II: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Every IKWF wrestler attending will receive lunch and an IKWF/U of I camp t-shirt. The camp, lunch, and t-shirt are provided free of charge to the participating wrestler.

Registration information will be available at the IKWF State Championships in Peoria (March 7 & 8, 2025).

The IKWF Board of Directors and Coach Poeta are looking forward to this inaugural event in April. Good luck to all wrestlers for the upcoming season!
