2024 Novice and Senior State Tournament Information
Note: Information provided below applies to the BOYS age groups and the GIRLS age groups.
The IKWF will utilize Trackwrestling for tournament administration.

Team Eligibility: | All teams must be chartered with the IKWF by the postmark deadline of February 1st of each season. A team's primary practice site must reside within the borders of the State of Illinois. |
Wrestler Eligibility: | Novice and Senior Division wrestlers only. In addition to the regional tournament and sectional tournament eligibility requirements, wrestlers must qualify for the state tournament by: Place in the top three (3) at their sectional tournament. Note: A wrestlers weight class is determined at the regional tournament. Wrestlers MAY NOT switch weight classes for the state tournament. |
Coach Eligibility: | All coaches must hold a current USAW Leader Membership card, they must be NCEP (copper, bronze, silver, or gold) certified, and they must display the wrestling leader membership card at the state tournament as defined in the IKWF bylaws. |
Entry Fee: | None. Note: Teams will be charged the following rates for scratches: $0, if the IKWF office is notified on Monday prior to the start of weigh-ins. $10, if the IKWF office is notified up to 48 hours prior to the start of weigh-ins. $20, if the IKWF office is notified between 24 to 48 hours prior to the start of weigh-ins. $30, if the IKWF office is NOT notified prior to the start of weigh-ins. |
Team Scoring: | Novice and Senior - as defined by the National Federation of State High School wrestling rules (see Rule 9 starting on page 50 of the NFHS rule book). |
Scoring Wrestlers: | Novice and Senior divisions - teams are limited to two (2) scoring wrestlers at each weight class. If more than two (2) wrestlers are entered at a given weight class, the scoring wrestlers must be declared by the conclusion of weigh-ins Friday morning. |
Brackets: | Double elimination with full wrestle backs to 3rd Place. |
Pairings: | Boys Senior and Novice: See page 38 of the bylaws. Girls Senior and Novice: See page 40 of the bylaws. Pairings are drawn at the Jon Davis Kids Open in January and placed in a sealed envelope. Pairings will be revealed and available on this website on Sunday March 3, 2024. |
Individual Awards: | State champions receive a framed bracket board. Medals will be awarded to the top eight (8) place winners in the Novice and Senior Divisions. Team Awards: | Trophies will be awarded to the top five (5) teams in the Boys Novice, Girls Novice, Boys Senior, and Girls Senior divisions. |
Weigh-in Location and Time: | Location: BMO Center: Weigh-in Times: For Friday's competition: Thursday, March 7th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm or Friday, March 8th from 7 am to 7:30 am. For Saturday's competition: Friday, March 8th from approximately 7:00 pm to 15 minutes after the conclusion of the final bout of Session II. or Saturday, March 9th from 6:30 am to 7 am. Note: Wrestlers have two (2) consecutive attempts to make weight for each day of competition. |
Weigh-in Procedures: | All wrestlers, including those in the 275 lbs. weight class are required to weigh-in wearing a competition singlet or a legal two-piece uniform. Each wrestler must make scratch weight for the 1st day of competition. Wrestlers are given a one-pound allowance for the 2nd day of competition. Wrestlers are given two (2) consecutive attempts to make weight. Upon entry to the weigh-in area, wrestlers may not attempt to lose weight and may not leave until their attempt(s) have been completed. |
Weigh-in Notes: | Wrestler's receive two (2) consecutive attempts to weigh-in for each day of competition. For Friday's competition wrestlers may attempt to make weight either Thursday night or Friday morning. For Saturday's competition wrestlers may attempt to make weight either Friday night or Saturday morning. |
